Abstract:

This 1:2 million shoreline was downloaded from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) produced by NOAA Satellite and Information Service at <http://rimmer.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coast/getcoast.html.The> shoreline was created from the World Data Bank II. (Fair Resolution. World Wide Coverage. This data is suitable for map scales of 2,000,000 or smaller. Also contains international and internal political boundaries and rivers.)The CIA World DataBank II is a collection of world map data, consisting of vector descriptions of land outlines, rivers, and political boundaries. This highly compressed binary version was created by the U.S. government in the 1980s.<http://www.evl.uic.edu/pape/data/WDB/>

Purpose:

The purpose for this complete 1:2 million shoreline is to have a polygon shapefile that displays a generalized shoreline of Florida.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

This 1:2 million shoreline was downloaded from the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) produced by NOAA Satellite and Information Service at <http://rimmer.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coast/getcoast.html.Then> the new Florida state line was added. Then it was converted into a shapefile and put into a Personal Geodatabase. Then a topology validation was run and all errors fixed. Then it was put into a feature data set and converted from polylines to a polygon by right clicking on the feature dataset, then the option under "new" to create "polygon feature class from lines".
