Abstract:
This GIS data set was created by FMRI from legal descriptions provided by the DEP Division of Law Enforcement. The remainder of this description-abstract was taken in pieces from the legal descriptions. Persons who receive saltwater products license suspensions (under chapter 96-300, section 370.092) remain subject to certain restrictions for a 12-month period following the reinstatement of their license privileges. Specifically, these persons and the vessels they are operating are restricted to vessel corridors that the department (DEP) must establish by rule if the vessels contain or are otherwise transporting nets prohibited under article x. This rulemaking action implements this legislation by establishing the vessel corridors. This rule establishes 38 corridors within which a convicted netting offender must remain when operating a vessel carrying proscribed nets during the 12 month period following reinstatement of saltwater license privileges suspended under section 370.092, Florida statutes. "Vessel corridor" or "corridor" means designated paths in, through, or across a water body or portions thereof identified by this rule as permissible for the carriage of prohibited nets during the reinstatement period. Where a marked channel is listed as the corridor, the corridor lies within the marked boundaries of the channel. Where a direct line on a specified heading is listed as the corridor, the corridor lies within 100 yards either side of the line for a total width of 200 yards. The vessel corridor descriptions and headings are given for outbound vessels; vessels returning from sea will follow a reciprocal heading.
Purpose:
To spatially represent the vessel channels of Florida. An ArcView shapefile of the ArcInfo coverage has been used for the Statewide Ocean Resource Inventory (SORI) project.

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute.
