Abstract:
This polygon GIS data set visually represents Harmful Algal Bloom
(HAB) regions for the state of Florida The Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB)
region boundaries are based on the general behavior of blooms in a
region.This data set was created from FMRI's 1:24000 counties data
set. Attributes were added to include the three HAB region names. The
boundaries were then extended with a 3 nautical mile buffer to
separate inshore and offshore sampling efforts. These data are for
cartographic use only; they are not intended for use as legal
boundaries.
Purpose:
This data set is used for analyses and graphical purposes of HAB
events.

--Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI)
was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute
name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work
completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name
has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and
contact information.--
