Abstract:
This dataset consists of a selected subset of the Florida Museum of Natural History (FLMNH) museum collection of short-tailed shrew samples, selecting those records identified as the "shermani" subspecies.
Purpose:
To compile a dataset of known point locations of the Sherman short-tailed shrew (Blarina carolinensis shermani) used to create the Sherman shrew potential habitat model for the update to Cox and Kautz (2000).
Supplemental_Information:
The data contained in the FLMNH museum catalog are all from vouchered records (specimens).
Potential habitat maps, "identify the appropriate habitat types and relationships between habitat classes within the known range of the species in the state of Florida based upon the FWC 2003 landcover image" (Cox and Kautz 2000).
Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.
