Description:

Abstract:: This dataset contains the locations of shorebirds - Snowy & Wilson's Plover. These data were collected by Mark Nicholas using a Trimble GPS unit, model unknown.
Purpose:: To show the location of shorebirds at Gulf Islands National Seashore (GUIS). The intended use of all data in the park's GIS library is to support diverse park activities including planning, management, maintenance, research, and interpretation.

FWRI staff added field ([Area_name]) to the attribute table of each of 3 spatial datasets to assign unique name to survey area based on the original filenames: Fort_Pickens_Snowy_Pl.shp Perdido_Key_Snowy_Pl.shp Santa_Rosa_Snowy_Pl.shp Santa_Rosa_Wilsons_Pl.shp Used the Append Tool to combine the preceding point spatial datasets. Reprojected newly compiled dataset to Florida Modified Albers.

FWRI staff MERGEd the Snowy Plover and the Wilson's Plover datasets from the same sampling effort. A field named "ComName" was added with the species common name to replace "feature_typ" field from original datasets. "__of_eggs" and "__of_chicks" fields were converted to short integer fields and renamed "Eggs" and "Chicks." Following fields from data collection were removed: Max_PDOP, Max_HDOP, Corr_Type, Rcvr_Type, Update_Sta, Datafile, Unfilt_pos, Filt_pos, Data_Dicti, GPS_Week, GPS_Second, GPS_Height, Vert_Prec, Horz_Prec, Std_Dev, Northing, Easting, & Point_ID
