Description:

Abstract:

Feature depicts dense hard bottom habitats within the midshore region of the Springs Coast using the 2007 seagrass mapping project boundary. This boundary extends to a maximum of 15 nm offshore within Hernando County. The project boundary is provided within this geodatabase as a separate feature (see Project Boundary). Hard bottom habitats were hand digitized from the 2007 seagrass imagery and have been field verified with the exception of two HB areas near the barge canal navigation channel. Coral found at these sites include the following: Siderastrea radians, Siderastrea siderea, Solenastrea siderea, Solenastrea hyades, Stephanocoenia intersepta, Oculine robusta, Manicina areolata, Cladocora arbuscula. Sites located from 10nm to 15nm have a greater divesity of coral than sites located closer to shore.

Purpose:

To provide positional accurate data on the location and morphology of dense hard bottom habitats containing sponges, coral, and other floral and fauna critical structure and habitat for fish and sea turtles.
