Abstract:
This polygon GIS data set represents the location and coverage area of most major oyster reefs within the Sebastian River. Each oyster reef was mapped using Real-Time Kinematic GPS (RTK GPS). Transect surveys were conducted at 1-m intervals across the face of the reef, perpendicular to the long-axis of the reef and extending from border to border. The latitude, longitude and height (elevation) data for each 1-m interval were collected using the RTK GPS rover unit. No data points were taken outside the perimeter of the reef. These data points were used to create a perimeter polygon for each reef to delineate its location and surface area.
Purpose:
Conduct updated mapping of the major oyster reefs and provide a quantitative summary of oyster reef distribution patterns in the Sebastian River as a baseline for comparison with future mapping efforts.

Process_Description:
To increase the accuracy of our horizontal and vertical data, the RTK GPS base-station was used as a temporary benchmark for each day's survey. The base station was set to record its position every 10 seconds for a minimum of 2 hours. This temporary benchmark data was later submitted to the National Geodetic Survey's On-line Positioning User Service (OPUS) for post-processing. For all applications, the portable RTK GPS rover unit used to acquire geographic coordinates was set with a Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP) value of six or less to maximize the accuracy of our positional data, and the number of satellites used was set at a minimum of six to ensure that PDOP cap. Satellites below 15o above the horizon were not included, and the minimum signal-to-noise ratio was set at 6.0
