Abstract:

This GIS data set represents the eastern boundary of the Right Whale Mandatory Ship Reporting Zone South polygon digitized from NOAA Navigation Charts 11480A1 (Scale = 1:449,659) and 11460A1 (Scale= 1:466,940). A generalized state boundary (shoreline) was added to GIS layer in order to create a polygon. This west side shore boundary is not part of the legal description of the Zone; its only intent is to create a polygon GIS layer. Vessels are not required to report to the MSR when leaving a port in the zone (Jacksonville,Fl; Fernandina Beach, Fl or Brunswick, Ga).

This data set is for visual reference only. These boundaries are not intended for legal use.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.
This does not represent all right whale mandatory ship reporting. There is additional critical habitat near Cape Cod.
