Abstract:
This GIS data set represents recorded occurrence of diamondback terrapin in Florida from multiple sources. The data were collected between 1928 to 2013.
Purpose:
This GIS data set serves to spatially represent dates and locations diamondback terrapin have been recorded in Florida.
Supplemental_Information:
Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

Live terrapin in the Florida Big Bend area collected 2010-2013. These data were provided with cordinates in degree decimal minute (DD M.MMM) format, which were converted to decimal degrees for the final data set. Four data points (1 in Georgia and 3 in Leon County, FL) were omitted from these data due to the location being outside of the defined terrapin habitat range. This location error was attributed to faulty GPS location data.

The data were converted to shapefiles using the Add X,Y data tool in ArcMap. The live terrapin data were then merged into a single dataset.
