Abstract:
This GIS data set represents recorded occurrence of diamondback terrapin nests in the Big Bend region of Florida. The data were collected between 2008 to 2013.
Purpose:
This GIS data set serves to spatially represent dates and locations diamondback terrapin nests have been recorded in the Florida Big Bend area.
Supplemental_Information:
Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

Diamondback terrapin nests in the Florida Big Bend area collected 2008-2013. These data were provided with cordinates in degree decimal minute (DD M.MMM) format, which were converted to decimal degrees for the final data set. One point (Date_ = 8/22/2008) was omitted from this dataset because the nest location was outside of the terrapin habitat range. The error is suspected to be due to bad GPS location data.

The source data were standardized to include fields Date, NumberCollected, Latitude (In decimal degrees), Longitude (in decimal degrees), Nest Condition, and Source (indicates original data source). See Source Information for source-specific processing.
The data were converted to shapefiles using the Add X,Y data tool in ArcMap.
