This GIS layer consists of points representing facilities of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, including the Main Headquarters, Regional Offices, Division of Wildlife, Freshwater Fisheries, and Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.

Purpose:

This data set provides a visual representation of FWC office locations as of September 2018.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information. The road data layers are accurate to approximately 1:100,000 scale. The geocoding output parameters included a side offset of 0 and an end offset of 3 percent. Some offices were relocated based GoogleEarth, GoogleMaps, and GoogleMaps Streetview.

Facilities attributes and positions were updated to match the 'offical' FWC portal data where positions are reported by staff at the office locations.

1) The Latitude / Longitude pairs provided in excel were converted from Degrees, Minutes, decimal Seconds format to decimal degrees. 2) The excel worksheet was imported into a personal geodatabase (.mdb) using Microsoft Access to control the field types and sizes. 3) Using ArcCatalog, the new table was then converted into a feature class in a file geodatabase using the latitude & Longitude pairs. 4) A copy of the existing feature class from the SDE database was brought into an ArcMap editing session with the new feature class containing FWRI facility locations. Snapping was used to move any existing points that corresponded to an FWRI facility to its new corrected location. If there were attribute changes, these were modified at that point. 5) The 5 facilities that were not previously in the existing feature class were added. The remaining attributes associated with these facilities were filled in using information from the Staff Directory on FWC's SharePoint. Any information not available from this source was procured from Google Maps.
