Abstract:

This GIS data set represents boundaries of Fish Management Areas (FMA) administered by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). These data are intended as a general reference map only. More information on activities permitted in individual areas can be found on the FWC Division of Freshwater Fisheries Web site: https://myfwc.com/fishing/freshwater/sites-forecasts/fish-management/.

Purpose:

This GIS data set was created to represent a comprehensive statewide data set of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Fish Management Areas.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

A total of 11 Fish Management Areas (FMAs) that were no longer designated as FMAs by FWC’s Division of Freshwater Fisheries were removed from the dataset. By the same authority, 3 FMAs were added: (1) Edward Medard Park FMA, (2) Baymeadows FMA, and (3) Largo Central Park Preserve FMA. Additionally, Crescent Lake was added to the Clermont Chain FMA, and Tenoroc FMA was edited to include 26 individual lakes, instead of a single representative polygon.
