This dataset serves as documentation of vegetation in the littoral zone within Newnans Lake, Alachua County, Florida using digital aerial photography. The Vegetation communities were mapped using digital aerial imagery acquired from a DMC camera in June of 2007 at a scale of 1 foot pixel resolution. Fieldwork was documented of vegetative species and communities to ensure that imagery signatures correlated to field conditions. Photointerpretation was completed through mono-viewing of imagery. Each distinct community of emergent and floating vegetation was mapped according to the Florida Land Use, Cover and Forms Classification System (FLUCCS) as detailed below. Each polygon was also assigned a "OCBWG" code which corresponded to the classification system used by the Orange Creek Basin Working Group, within FL Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) - also defined below.

Attribute accuracy was tested by visual comparison of the aerial photographs with the FLUCCS classification to ensure consistency with the classification system and photo signatures. Groundtruthing was also performed to aid in delineation and classification of photo signatures, and to revise the map during production.

The positional accuracy of this data meets USGS NMAS for 1:24000 scale maps. Horizontal accuracy of the data corresponds to the positional accuracy of the USGS DOQQ's. Digital linework was reviewed over the USGS DOQQ's and well defined features on the images were inspected for comparison to linework data collected representing those features. GPS check points were also collected using a differentially corrected Trimble Pro XR receiver.

Photointerpretation was completed by mono-viewing of the stereo imagery by inexperienced photointerpreters - extra field comparison was used to verify/revise difficult polygons to improve accuracy. This map was produced primarily from field coding of polygons drawn on the imagery, and to a lesser extent from photointerpretation for inaccessible polygons or "easier" signatures. After map completion, an independent GIS review of 10% of the polygons revealed a 94% agreement on classification codes and 92% agreement on modifier codes.
