This GIS data set represents the 2009-2010 Wildlife Management Areas administered by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and other associated public use areas. These data are intended as a general reference map only. More information on activities permitted in individual areas can be found from the links on FWC's Web site: <http://www.myfwc.com/hunting/wma-brochures>

Purpose:

This GIS data set was created to represent a comprehensive statewide data set of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Wildlife Management Areas.

Supplemental_Information:

Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.

Wildlife Management Area boundaries were produced by "heads-up" digitizing from 1999 USGS infrared imagery (DOQQ). In specified cases, Florida Natural Areas Inventory (FNAI) boundaries were used and modified based on the DOQQs (see SOURCE attribute). All boundaries are based on information from PDF maps of the Wildlife Management Areas from the FWC Web site: <http://myfwc.com/hunting/wma-brochures>.
