FWRI (Florida Fish & Wildlife Research Institute)Abstract: this GIS data set contains Florida county boundaries found on the most recent 7.5-minute USGS (1:24000 scale) quadrangles available in 1997. The county borders extend to the state water line. The shoreline linework matches that of CAMRA/FMRI 1:40K shoreline (which includes 2003 updates). Initially digitized in 1990 by USFWS under FMRI contract, the data set was created from the most current NOAA nautical charts available at the time. The scale of the source charts varied from 1:10,000 in some harbors to 1:80,000 in the Big Bend area. However, most of the source scale is 1:40,000. Some areas that have needed more accuracy for individual projects, have been digitized from USGS 7.5-minute quadrangles and Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles (DOQQs). Last review 2003.

In 2002 FMRI corrected for datum shift.

This GIS data set represents aquatic presevers (AP) in the State of Florida, originally created by FMRI from legal descriptions using 1:24,000 scale shoreline, now maintained by Florida DEP Coastal and Aquatic Managed Areas (CAMA). Aquatic preserves are ecologically significant submerged lands maintained in relatively pristine condition. Currently all AP are also Outstanding Florida Waters (OFWs). Last update 2003.
