The original data set was produced during the Statewide Boating Access Facilities Inventory and Economic Study, FWC contract Number 04/05-23 and delivered by the contractor August 30, 2009. The purpose of that study was to create a comprehensive inventory of publicly accessible boat access facilities and conduct several economic studies to quantify economic impact of recreational boating; estimate present and projected supply/demand; conduct site suitability analysis for potential or expanded facilities; and estimate capital costs for new or improved facilities.

Descriptive inventory of public access boat ramps throughout Florida, derived from raw data produced during the Florida Boating Access Facilities Inventory and Economic Study, FWC contract Number 04/05-23, product delivered August 30, 2009. This data set is modified from the original format and supplemented by additional data maintained by FWC. These data will eventually evolve into a planned integrated boating access facilities inventory system. This data set is a selection of facilities from the raw data set that the contractor identified to be in operation and accessible to the general public during the time of data compilation. This data set includes both government managed facilities accessible to the general public and commerciality operated facilities accessible to the general public. In both cases a fee might be charged for use of the facility. The attribute fields included in this data set are a subset of those available in the raw data set. These attribute fields were selected and modified to present only attribute information that might be of most interest to the general public desiring to use these facilities. This modified data set is meant to be an interim data set for public dissemination until a more robust database application is constructed to provide interactive access to the original data via web services. Currently these data are considered preliminary and are not verified by FWC as to accuracy and completeness.

The overlying project is titled Florida Boating Access Facilities Inventory and Economic Study. Original data compilation conducted under sub-contract to the Urban Harbors Institute at the University of Massachusetts through contract number FWC 04/05-23 and product delivered August 30, 2009. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and Lee County commissioned the body of work from which these data are derived. The University of Massachusetts at Boston Urban Harbors Institute was lead contractor. Bordner Research Associates conducted field inspections. The project was commissioned in 2005 and titled the Florida Boating and Access Facilities Inventory and Economic Study.

This GIS data set represents anchorages in the state of Florida. An anchorage is a public place to anchor or moor a boat for overnight stay, not registered with harbors or marina. Anchorages are transient-welcome, have no facilities, and are open public areas.

This GIS data set represents the aids to navigation (ATONs) for the Seventh and Eighth Coast Guard Districts. The term "aids to navigation" refers to devices outside of a vessel that are used to assist mariners in determining their position, safe course or warn them of obstructions. Aids to navigation include light buoys and beacons. This data set includes federal aids, which are installed and maintained by the Coast Guard, as well as some privately maintained aids. This data set does not include unofficial (illegal) aids, such as PVC pipes, placed without permission. This data set is not certified for navigation and is not intended for navigation purposes. Each USCG district headquarters is responsible for updating its database on an as-needed basis. When existing aids are destroyed or relocated and new aids are installed, the database is updated. Each aid is assigned an official light listing number. The Light List is a document listing the status of the ATONs; it is regularly published and distributed. Interim changes to the Light List are published in local notices to mariners. In addition, the USCG broadcasts notices to mariners on the marine band radio as soon as changes in the status of individual aids are reported. Navigators should use the official notices to mariners to maintain current charts. Annual (or more frequent) updates of the Aids to Navigation database can be obtained from each USCG district headquarters.

Description: The Derelict Vessel Data comes from the Derelict Vessel Report contained within the Division of Law Enforcement’s Records Management System. The data is collected by FWC Officers and Partner Law Enforcement Agencies as they investigate Derelict Vessels on the water of the State. This information is used by internal and external customers on the location and status of Derelict Vessels. This data is updated on a regular basis by querying the RMS system. The Division’s Boating and Waterway Section is responsible for ensuring that reports are being started and completed in a timely manner as Derelict Vessels are removed from the waters.

This GIS data set was received from the Monroe County Department of Marine Resources. It represents a little more than the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), including several main boating routes crossing over to the Atlantic side in the middle keys around the 7 mile bridge. These data are to be used for cartographic purposes only, not for analysis or navigation.

This GIS data set represents Florida's West Coast Intracoastal Waterway and the Everglades Waterway. This coverage was created in 2001 by digitizing 1:40000 and 1:50000 scale NOAA Nautical Charts 11411, 11414, 11425, 11427, 11430, 11432, and 11433 in either paper or digital format. In cases where charts overlapped, the smallest-scale charts were used. Source chart dates range from 1989-1995. These data are to be used for cartographic purposes only, and are inappropriate to be used for analysis or navigational purposes.

These GIS data depict navigational routes commonly used in Florida. Many of these routes are officially designated navigational channels or waterways. Others are just well known but unmarked pathways from one location to another. These data were digitized from NOAA Nautical charts (image files) of various dates and map scales, using most detailed charts for the area and feature of interest. Where depicted on the charts, channel centerlines and waterway routes were followed. Otherwise, AToNs depicted on the charts were used as guides to trace navigation pathways.
This data set does not depict all navigational pathways but should serve as a start to a more comprehensive data set. This data set was developed to display paths of navigation that boaters use in Florida. However not all of these pathways are channels or of verified depth. These data are not to be used for navigation.

This data set represents the FWC Boating Restricted Areas as described in Florida Administrative Code Chapter 68D-24. Boating restricted areas as established for the purpose of regulating the speed and operation of vessel traffic for the safety of the public. This data is provided to assist in located boating restricted areas.
This shapefile is intended for visual reference only. There are known limitations including sliver gaps and overlaps between adjacent zones. A suggested reference scale of 1:12,000 or smaller scale views is suggested to minimize appearance of slivers. This data set is not intended for navigation or legal uses. For legal boundaries, please refer to Section 68D-24 of the Florida Administrative Code. The text of the FAC is "controlling and dispositive of the exact location of the boundaries of each boating restricted area" (from 68D-24.003).
